Hermann Park #2

We had so much fun last weekend at Hermann Park and the Butterfly exhibit that we wanted to go back again. The park is huge so we thought we'd take another day to explore what it had to offer. We weren't disappointed! We had a little picnic then spent most of our time in the Japanese Garden, where there were lots of winding paths, footbridges, a koi pond, turtles galore, and some beautiful blue heron. We walked around for awhile then relaxed and played some card games in this little Japanese gazebo by a pond. It was a hot day, in the 90s, but for me that's the perfect weather so I was loving it. So peaceful.

Here's Emery, in her cute little hat. She had a grand old time being pushed around and squealing at people we would walk by. She really loves people and gets so excited when anyone pays her attention. And she generously rewards that attention with squeals, happy screams, smiles, and cuddles and kisses (slobbery one!) if you pick her up.

 I took this picture of Gavin and just really liked it so I had to post it. But if you look at it and say, "Gavin, why would you post this picture when your hair is so ugly?" just know it's my fault. I'm learning to cut it and...well...I'm not very good at it. But Gavin has been a good sport about it so I just keep cutting away!

Hermann Park was a lot of fun and we'll definitely be going back often over the years. They have this huge outdoor theater that is FREE that we can't wait to take advantage of. They even have free performances during the week for kids. I'm planning on taking Emery to the Little Mermaid Jr. one in June...we'll see if I'm brave enough to drive through Houston traffic myself.

Butterflies

Confession: I love bugs. NOT IN MY HOUSE, but I think they are fascinating outside and I really enjoy learning about them. I think if I started my schooling all over I would become an entomologist just because it would be fun to study (I don't know how much I would enjoy a career breeding fruit flies, I'll stick with being a mom!). This past weekend we took a fun bug trip to the Butterfly Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science with my cousin and his family, who also live in Houston. This was a beautiful exhibit, with a waterfall in the middle and you walked down in a spiral around the waterfall, surrounded by trees and flowers and hanging plants, with hundreds of butterflies flying all around you. It was really fun, and had lots of great displays about bugs and other creepy, crawly things. 

Emery did great, she loved looking around at all the plants and butterflies flying around. It was our first real Houston adventure, it was definitely a success!
